2006 Columbiana County Impact Statements

Agriculture and Natural Resources - Ernest Oelker, Extension Educator, ANR - CD

 

• Eighty-five agricultural producers attended a general pesticide recertification meeting to earn credit toward renewal of their private pesticide applicator’s licenses. All private applicator categories were covered for the convenience of applicators.

 

• Twenty-six agricultural producers from 6 northeast Ohio counties attended a livestock mortality composting training and certification program. Dr. Steve Moeller, OSU Animal Science Swine Specialist taught the program. This is the fourth mortality composting program conducted in the Columbiana-Mahoning County area.

 

• 396 youth and 200 adults attended Livestock Quality Assurance training sessions in Columbiana County. The ANR AND 4-H Youth Educators conducted the training for all youth exhibitors of market and milk producing livestock. Committee members monitored livestock fitting and handling of animals during the Columbiana County fair to ensure compliance with Ohio Livestock Tampering rules.

 

Forty-five farmers, land-owners and attorneys attend the Northeast Ohio Agricultural Law Conference and discussed important legal issues for farmers and land-owners. Topics included farm liability, line fence law, drainage and water issues, nuisance law, and roadway liability.
